Microneedling

Microneedling, often referred to as collagen induction therapy, is a procedure that is performed to improve skin tone and texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and scarring. During the procedure, your skin will be numbed with a topical cream and an instrument is used to create small shallow punctures in the skin with tiny sterile needles. These small punctures cause the body to promote skin rejuvenation. Plan for a week of downtime for healing.

Different products may be applied to the skin during the process to facilitate skin rejuvenation. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is commonly applied, and is derived from blood drawn from your arm which is spun down in a centrifuge. PRP helps to rejuvenate the skin by using your body’s own growth factors to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin.

All procedures that boost the body’s ability to generate collagen and elastin take time to work, with the peak results being seen in 4-6 weeks and lasting 6 months or more. To achieve the best results, a series of 3 sessions should be completed approximately 4-6 weeks apart with maintenance sessions around once to twice per year. Ideally, skin laxity, tone and texture should be addressed before adding dermal filler.
